Some of the folklore is tied to the area’s history with flooding. Littleton experienced a devastating South Platte River flood in June 1965, one of the most destructive flooding events in Colorado history. Stories surrounding the Melting Pot have connected the site’s earlier flood history—as well as its years as a jail—to its reputation for being haunted. The ghosts, of course, remain considerably harder to verify.
