A Small City With Its Own Identity
Glendale is unusual because it’s essentially surrounded by Denver but remains an independent home-rule city. That independence is intentional: Glendale incorporated in 1952 largely because residents feared annexation by Denver and wanted to maintain local control.
Today, its location is one of its biggest draws. Glendale sits along the Cherry Creek corridor near Cherry Creek shopping and dining, with Colorado Boulevard and Leetsdale Drive providing convenient connections to surrounding Denver neighborhoods.
Parks, Trails & Recreation
For such a small city, Glendale puts considerable emphasis on recreation. The city maintains approximately 17 acres of parks and streetscapes.
Infinity Park is probably Glendale’s most recognizable landmark. The city-owned complex includes a rugby stadium, park space, event facilities and recreation amenities.
Glendale Park offers playground equipment, open space, a walking/jogging path and picnic facilities. Glendale has also added water-wise landscaping, including a native wildflower garden at City Hall.

Glendale was once dairy country. Independent dairies operated in the area beginning in the late 1800s, and the Glendale name itself was associated with the Glendale Farm Dairy in the early 1900s.
A mammoth tooth was found in Cherry Creek. In 1937, fossil discoveries in the creek included an upper mammoth molar that was donated to Denver’s Museum of Natural History.
