Roxborough isn’t actually a town. It is an unincorporated community in Douglas County, so there is no Town of Roxborough government.
People have been using the Roxborough area for thousands of years. More than 40 archaeological sites and 200 artifacts have been documented within Roxborough State Park.
In 1903, Henry Persse built a stone house at Roxborough to entertain visitors. Persse Place still stands within the state park and occasionally opens for historical tours.
Roxborough State Park didn’t open to the public until 1987, although Colorado began acquiring land for the park in 1975.
